Food Waste/Compost Program

When food scraps are taken by Summit Rolloffs to the Summit County Resource Allocation Park (SCRAP), they are combined with biosolids and wood chips from beetle-killed pine trees to make compost. According to High Country Conservation Center, SCRAP's compost is "the highest grade of compost governed by the Environmental Protection Agency, meaning it's approved for all uses including herbs and vegetables... in short - it's the good stuff"

Compost can be sampled for free each spring, or purchased the rest of the year by bag or cubic yard. You can find more information at https://www.summitcountyco.gov/services/public_works/landfill_recycling/compost.php.

Universal Recycling Ordinance
Section 4-16-9(F)(4)(b) of the Town of Breckenridge Municipal Code

By June 1st, 2025, all Breckenridge trash customers of Summit Rolloffs must also have "at least one half volume of the size of the trash container or service equivalent of fifty percent." Meaning, if you have an 8 yard trash container, you would be required by local ordinance to have a 4 yard container for recycling as well.

Sustainability at a Local Level

We believe in sustainability education for the communities we serve, which is why we want to make sure our customers understand what materials are recyclable and how to sort them according to local guidelines.
